True Hip-Hop Stories: Sadat X of Brand Nubian

True Hip-Hop Stories: Sadat X of Brand Nubian from D-Nice.

In this edition of True Hip-Hop Stories, Sadat X discusses the making of the classic Brand Nubian recording Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down. He also reflects on the state of hip-hop today and how his stint on Rikers Island changed his life.

Brand Nubians is in my top 5 hiphop groups, I was lucky to interview him for his solo album just before the incarceration. He has done songs with everybody! A true hiphop legend. The memory of the Now Rule MCees cyphering in the library is deep.
Peace D-Nice and incredible video as always http://thekoolskool.blogspot.com/

D thank ya 4 this one. Always wondered what happened to the Wild Cowboy since his last full length (?) Black August. Glad he's out and eager to listen to the new gems he has to unleash. God bless and keep doing what you do GB. It is much needed and wholeheartedly appreciated.

I have met him once at his Tour in Germany a few Years back. Very cool, down to earth guy. And a beast on the Mic. Please come out with some new music, Sadat!

As always well documented piece on classic hip hop joints. I remember riding the 3 (New Lots bound) listening to Brand Nubians on the SONY walkman and thinking to myself this is what music is. Empowerment, knowledge, hot ass beats and lyrically one of the best groups. Keep up the good work.

Yes Yes Yes, great work D, Sadat X is one of my favorites, when he said he loved his contemporaries but didn't want to be them, I got a chill.

Another banger. Great work, D. Can't wait for you to put some kind of full length or DVD out. I'll definitely cop.
Sadat is correct about older heads complaining but not putting out quality music anymore themselves.
Thanks for doing these and keep it movin'...
