Feeling Nostalgic: Mister Softee

Today, I came across a Mister Softee Ice Cream truck parked on Riverside Drive. As a child, I spent many hot summer days playing classic street games like skellies, ringalevio, hot peas & butter, and stickball. The only thing, other than my grandmother's voice, that could interrupt play time was the all-too-familiar sound of the Mister Softee jingle playing a block away. "The ice cream truck is coming!"

The photo and your comment remind me that some things never change. My daughter is 3 yrs old and when she hears that jingle, nothing matters. In her world the only thing that is important is getting money and getting to that truck for ice cream.

I think Mr. Softee is only in NY. The ice cream truck that my kids run to plays some sort of melody but its definitely not like this iconic one. I get a great feeling when I'm in NY and hear it coming up the block.
