R.I.P. Car Wash
In 2008, while out in San Francisco for a DJ gig, I met a homeless man by the name of Car Wash. He initially expressed to me how much he disliked being photographed, but allowed me to capture an image only after convincing him that I didn't work for the local newspaper. To this day, it's still one of my favorite images. Someone that lived out there informed me that Car Wash passed away recently. Rest in peace.

I wonder if his family had any photos of him...this portrait, even as a homeless man, seems regal or stately in some way. He looks important. Beautiful, poignant image...
icandygirl, you articulated my thoughts. There's always a back story and truth is...a lot of folks are a paycheck or two away from homelessness. He does have a presence, doesn't he? And even though he didn't liked being photographed, he allowed D into his world that moment. And washing cars is honorable. Thank you again D-Nice. Car Wash: A Window to Humanity. We are all God's children.
*icandygirl, get Super Rich. While the concepts are age-old, the framing is fresh. It's an easy read too (relatively short). "Super Rich" is a good mantra too and it just shows Hip-Hop's continual ability to present things in a fresh and engaging way. Never mind what you heard on the radio (smile).
D-Nice you transformed Car Wash's "no" into a "yes." That is magic my dear. What if we lived life like a "yes" no matter what the past circumstances dictate?
I love love this photograph, when I look at it so many things go through my head
